i've had terrible jobs but working in a nursing home takes the cake for worst job, it really was so depressing, you can't make any real changes for the residents unless you have a big degree high-tier position. they were mistreated and miserable, especially the 2nd floor which was the memory care ward and basically hospice. there was a lot of toxic culture and drama in the workplace. my direct boss would constantly talk badly about everyone else, I couldn't stand her. they would try and get me to do things the wrong way to make general operations easier, then tell me to make sure it's proper when the state comes around for inspection, but even then the state would not do anything about what was blatantly wrong there and borderline illegal. the last straw for me was a resident "town hall" meeting where they could address concerns, and the director gaslit all of these old folk that their concerns were already addressed or not happening when I knew for a fact they were. also, a nurse would come around in a common gathering area and ask residents about their BM's in front of the others, which was very embarrassing for them, I made sure she got talked to about it but its unbelievably ridiculous how common that treatment is.
