Do you ever avoid going to the doctor's office? Why or why not?

I will if I have to

I don't go for regular check ups though, I mean I probably should, but if truth be told I don't care about my health enough to do so.

sad thing to admit, but that's the truth..

Yes, as much as possible, because I have a phobia of needles. But if it's really necessary, I have no other choice.

For several years due to lack of insurance. I have new insurance starting in January so I'll go get a checkup.

I should probably go to the doctor for everything that's breaking in my body. But, again, because I live in America, the "land of the free", where it costs you an arm and a leg to see the doctor when you have a sniffle, I haven't gotten my ears cleaned out as I've needed to. I haven't had my psoriasis taken care of, I'm still suffering from Plantar fasciitis,. I'm sure I could go on.

I go to doctors fairly regularly due to having a slew of health conditions. I actually have a primary physician appointment tomorrow (though he's mostly our GI, he does our primary stuff as well- and he's the doctor we trust most in my household, as he's saved my dad's life a couple of times and also he's dealt with us since I was a toddler). I also have a neurologist appointment next Monday to discuss the results of my neck MRI earlier this month... which will probably lead to a new doctor referral and/or more MRIs, since I got the report already in advance and uh... my neck is doomed.

But yeah, I tend to go to doctors fairly frequently- sometimes I'm going to a couple a week for a month, sometimes just one or two in a month... But I think I almost always see at least one a month with all my specialists and whatnot...

I'm a bit on the macho side so it's not something I do. I'm a 180 firm pounds and work out so I'm invincible right? .....*not really

I used to avoid it. In hindsight, I wish I didn't. I found out I had CKD when I was already at stage 4. If I had been going for regular checkups and getting blood work done, I could have caught it earlier and changed up my lifestyle to slow, stop, or reverse the damage.

Regular checkups and labs are important. Things like the sniffles and getting sick, not so much. You can usually get over these on your own.

I used to until I tried to kill myself in Oct. 2021 as all my health problems (physical and mental) overweighed me.
Now I actually enjoy going because I know I'm getting better, day by day and step by step.

I've been raving about how I get to go to a new specialist soon. That appointment is next week. I really wish I could avoid it compared to most because it feels awkward being told I need to go to a cancer center (for some reason, the only hematologists I could find in my area work at those).

Good luck!

Try not to, sometimes I do. Some of the doctors suck around here. No type of bedside manner. I had this one :censored: doctor years ago that I asked if he could get me a referral to have a mammogram. He literally laughed at me and asked why do I need a mammogram. I politely told him my mom died of breast cancer. He stopped laughing and sent over the referral.

If a doctor has to ask that then he is a quack.

Nope. I rarely have a reason to go, but if there's any cause for concern, I will!

No, I do not avoid it. After working in the medical field for a few years now, I see behind the scenes of how difficult it can be if you avoid keeping up with your healthcare. At the very least, go once a year for that annual physical. Providers need documentation for so many things now a days. You may even drop off your physician's panel if you choose not to go for several years. And finding a PCP in this climate of healthcare is a hassle in and of itself.
